Application of Ultrasonic Level Transmitter in Hermetic Container

Ultrasonic Level Transmitter is specifically designed for continuous non-contact liquid level measurement. The transducer (probe) sends out high frequency ultrasonic pulses. When a pulse hits the surface of measured liquid, it is partially reflected. The reflected wave is received by the transducer and converted into an electronic signal. The distance from the transducer to liquid surface is calculated according to the time difference between pulse transmission and reception and velocity of sound wave.

Because Ultrasonic Level Transmitter sensor is contactless, it can provide reliable continuous level measurements for applications in various open pools, for example, water pool in sewage treatment and other water resources in hydraulic and hydrological survey.


In fact,Ultrasonic Level Transmittercan also be used in a specific container, but the pressure and temperature are required to be close to normal atmosphere. The propagation speed ofUltrasonic Level Transmitterdiffers when temperature and pressure change.

In general, to useUltrasonic Level Transmittersin hermetic container need to meet the following conditions:


1. Pressure in the hermetic container should be close to atmospheric pressure. In particular, the medium above the liquid level should be similar to air components to ensure accurate and smooth transmission of the sound waves.


2. Temperature should be relatively low. High temperature generates water vapor into droplets and may adhere on transducer’s surface. These droplets affect the emission of sound waves, as well as the measurement accuracy.


3. Anti-corrosion transducer should be selected for corrosive medium.

In addition, there are several points to considerate in installation.


1. Keep the instrument installed vertically. Ensure that the transmitting surface of the transducer is parallel to the measured plane, so the sound wave could vertically transmit to the surface and return with maximum energy.


2. Ensure that the distance from the highest liquid level to the transducer surface is greater than the blind area of the transducer.


3. For light steam container, the probe should be inclined slightly by about 3 ° during installation to avoid droplets.


4. In case of stir or fluctuation, an extended guide tube with smooth inner wall is suggested to install into the bottom of the liquid level. Besides, when inner liquid level in the guide tube is consistent with the outside, the diameter of the guide tube of the instrument should be greater than the radiation surface of thetransducer.

5. Avoid installing the instrument near liquid inlet or outlet, as well as to avoid strong vibration area. For light vibration area, rubber gasket can be installed to reduce vibration. When install in the open air, a protective shelter should be installed to prevent the sun burn and rain pouring.
