Jiwei Vibrating Rod Level Switch —— a Reliable Measurement for Alumina

The client, a Shanxi Aluminum-Magnesium enterprise is basically producing and processing alumina, aluminum hydroxide, aluminum-magnesium hydrotalcite. Alumina is a kind of inorganic substance and a high hardness compound. As the production process of alumina powder improved, most alumina powders are now less than 1 micron. At the process of electrolyzing alumina, to monitor the material level in alumina silo is significant. The working condition of the electrolytic aluminum plant is extremely harsh, because alumina density is large (3.5g/cm³), and has strong adhesion, plus it is formed by chemical reaction in the electrolytic cell through a strong current, so resulting in a strong magnetic field on the site. At the same time, high temperature and the flying dust make most domestic level switches hard to work reliably in the alumina silo. Thus, the client has been troubled by the difficulty of smooth operation in the high-level automatic filling control system.
 
Rotary paddle switches were used by the client to measure alumina powder level. Rotary paddle switch uses a micro motor as the driving device, and the transmission shaft is connected with the clutch. When the paddle is covered by measured material, the motor stops rotating and its power is switched off automatically. At the same time, a switching signal is generated by a detection device to control the process of material transport /delivery. However, due to the low sealing performance, when measuring powdery materials, the dust can easily penetrate into the sensor, resulting in motor breakdown. Besides, paddle tend to be deformed by material impaction due to the high density of alumina, and the lengthened tube can also easily to be bent, resulting in short service life.



After detailed communication with the client, Jiwei engineer recommended Tube-11 Vibrating Level Switch due to the large proportion of alumina particles and the strong magnetic field. Based on the above advantages, Tube-11 can fully meet the requirements of level measurement under complex working conditions in alumina silo. Because of its good performance, the client eventually replaced all the rotary paddle switches to Tube-11 Vibrating Level Switches.

Since all Tube-11 Vibrating Level Switches were put into use, the accuracy, stability and reliability fully competent for the level measurement of alumina, and solved the problem of frequent false alarms.
